Japanese version last updated: October 20, 2026
The contents of your disc (video, photos, sound, files) are processed only on this PC and are not sent out. The app talks to the internet in only these three cases: (1) when the paid version saves a music CD, the "comparison with the online record" (section 3); (2) when you decide to repair unreadable spots of a music CD with the paid version, the "fetching of repair data" (section 4); (3) when you decide to send one, the "problem report" (section 5). The only thing the free "Disc Rescue Lite" can send out is (3), the problem report. In none of these cases are the sound itself, your name and the like sent. Checking whether you have bought the app is done by the Microsoft Store feature of Windows. When you ask support for help, you attach a result report to an e-mail yourself. The report does not contain the video or sound themselves.
1. Operator
Trade name: ODYU WORKS
The operator's personal name, address and telephone number are not published on this page. We will disclose them without delay if you ask. Please contact us at the e-mail address below.
Contact: disc.rescue123@gmail.com
2. Information we handle
- Contents of your disc (video, photos, sound, files): We do not collect them. They are processed only on this PC.
- Information about how you use the app: It is not sent automatically. Purchases, and checking whether you have bought the app, are handled by the Microsoft Store feature of Windows. Microsoft handles that information under its own policies.
- Diagnosis figures: Not sent automatically. They are used only on this PC. A summary of the reading result is included only when you yourself send a problem report (section 5).
- Table-of-contents information of a music CD: When the paid version saves a music CD, it is sent to an online public database (CUETools Database) (section 3).
- Fetching repair data: When you decide to repair unreadable spots of a music CD with the paid version, the app fetches the data needed for the repair (section 4).
- Problem report: We receive it only when you decide to send it (section 5).
- Read-position offset of each drive: It is remembered only on this PC and is not sent out (section 3).
- Purchase information: Payment is processed by the Microsoft Store. We do not receive payment information such as card numbers.
- E-mails to support: We receive your e-mail address, the text, and anything attached. If you attach a result report, we receive the report too. The report does not contain the contents of your video or sound (it is a record such as the number of items, lengths and the software version).
3. Music CD: comparison with the online record
When the paid version saves a music CD, it asks the online public database "CUETools Database" (destination name: db.cue.tools) whether the result it read matches the record. We do not operate that database. We name it only to show where information goes.
- What is sent: Only the information that corresponds to the disc's table of contents: a string of numbers listing where each track starts and where the disc ends, with a mark if there is a data track.
- What arrives with it: Because of how internet communication works, the destination receives your connection's IP address and the app's name and version (for example OptiRecover/0.1.0).
- Purpose: Only to compare the saved music CD's reading result with the online record. The communication goes directly from the app to the destination. It does not pass through our servers, and we do not receive its contents.
- When it is sent: When the paid version saves a CD that has music tracks, once per disc. If it cannot connect, it tries once more (it waits at most 10 seconds each time). The free "Disc Rescue Lite" does not send anything for this comparison. It is not sent for data CDs without music tracks, DVDs or Blu-ray discs either.
- How to stop it: In the paid version it is on by default (the app does not show a screen that asks each time). To stop it, turn off "Compare with online records" in the app's Settings. When it is off, the app reads nothing and sends nothing. Reading and saving keep working as before.
- What is not sent: The sound itself, track titles, file names, your name, e-mail address, the name of your PC and the drive model are not sent.
- If it cannot connect: Reading and saving do not stop. The result only shows "not compared".
- What we receive: The destination returns the record for discs with the same table of contents (numbers used for the comparison). It is used on your PC only to compare with the sound that was read.
- What stays on this PC: The following two. Both disappear if you delete the files. Neither is sent out.
- A copy of the record that came back. It is kept in the ".ctdb-cache" folder next to the saved image file, so that the same disc is not asked about again and again. For a disc that had a record it stops being used after 30 days, and for a disc that had none after 7 days.
- The read-position offset of each drive. The number that was found is remembered against the drive model and version in audio-offsets.txt inside the app's settings folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\OptiRecover). It is used only the next time the same drive reads.
Even when the comparison says "matches the record", we cannot say the result is the same as the original sound. Please read the displayed result with that in mind.
4. Fetching data to repair a music CD
For a music CD whose record was found by the comparison in section 3, spots that scratches made unreadable may be repairable from that record. Only when you choose "repair" in the paid version, the app fetches the data needed for the repair from the storage location that CUETools Database points to. We do not operate it.
- What is sent: Only a fetch request that names where that disc's record is stored, which came back from the inquiry in section 3. No new information is sent.
- What arrives with it: Because of how communication works, the place it is fetched from receives your connection's IP address and the app's name and version.
- Purpose: Only to rebuild the unreadable spots from the record. The communication goes directly from the app to the place it is fetched from. It does not pass through our servers.
- When it is sent: When you choose "repair" in the paid version's question of whether to repair, once per disc. The fetched data is kept on this PC as a copy, so that it is not fetched again and again for the same disc. If an encrypted connection is not possible, the app may, for that one fetch only, use an unencrypted connection. The data that arrives is used only when the whole disc matches the record after the repair; if it does not match, nothing is changed.
- How to stop it: If you do not choose "repair" in the question, nothing is fetched. Nothing is fetched while the comparison in section 3 is turned off either.
- What is not sent: The sound itself, track titles, file names, your name, e-mail address, the name of your PC and the drive model are not sent. The free "Disc Rescue Lite" does not fetch anything.
The repaired result is saved in a separate file from the original disc and from the data as it was read, and repaired spots are marked so you can see they were "rebuilt from the online record".
5. Problem report (optional)
When a disc could not be read, when some unreadable spots remain, or when the app behaves oddly, you can send us a problem report from the app. Whether to send it is up to you. The problem report is in the free "Disc Rescue Lite" and in the paid version. The only thing the free version can send out is this report.
- What is sent: The reason you chose on the screen (chosen from set options, for example: it stopped partway, a spot that should read does not, the screen looks wrong), the app version, whether it is the free or the paid version, the language of the screen (Japanese or English), the Windows version (numbers only), the drive model (only models on our list; for a model not on the list, the name is not sent, only "not on the list"), the kind of firmware in the drive (standard or not), how the drive is connected (built in or USB), the disc type (CD, DVD, Blu-ray) and capacity (rounded to 100 MB steps), a summary of the reading result (the share of places read, the share not tried yet, the kinds of problems that occurred, the kind of judgment) and the time taken (in 5-minute steps).
- What arrives with it: Because of how communication works, the receiving server receives your connection's IP address and the app version. The first time you send, it also receives the public half of an anonymous key that the app makes automatically (random numbers, not linked to your name or the like) and the answer to a calculation used for registration.
- Purpose: Only to learn which drives and discs have which problems, and to fix the software. We do not reply to reports. If you need a reply, please send us an e-mail.
- When it is sent: Only once, when you choose a reason on the screen, check everything that will be sent, and press "send". What will be sent is shown on the screen as it is. It is never sent automatically. Even if the connection fails, the app does not retry by itself. This is the same in the free version.
- Where and how long it is kept: Received reports are kept on a server managed by the operator and are deleted 90 days after they are received.
- How to stop it: If you do not press "send", nothing is sent. Even if you close the screen without sending, the other functions keep working as before.
- What is not sent: What was read from the disc (video, photos, sound, files), file names, folder names, the disc's name, serial numbers, numbers that identify the disc, the save location or drive letter, and the name of the PC or the user are not sent. There is no box for writing text.
6. Purpose of use
The information in e-mails to support is used to answer your inquiry and to handle refunds. Problem reports are used for the purpose in section 5. We do not use any of it for other purposes.
7. Provision to third parties
Except where required by law, we do not provide the information we hold to third parties. Payment in the Microsoft Store follows Microsoft's policies.
For the comparison when the paid version saves a music CD (section 3) and the fetching of repair data (section 4), the communication goes directly from the app to CUETools Database and its storage location. How the information is handled after it arrives depends on the policy of the destination.
8. Retention period and security
Problem reports are kept on a server managed by the operator and deleted 90 days after they are received. E-mails to support are kept only as long as necessary and deleted when no longer needed. Both are stored where only we can read them. Because this site is published with Cloudflare services, a record of the connections made when the site is opened (an access log) also remains with Cloudflare.
9. Requests for disclosure, correction and deletion
If you would like the information we hold about you to be disclosed, corrected or deleted, please contact the e-mail address above. After confirming that you are the person concerned, we will respond without delay. Because a problem report contains no information that identifies a person, such as a name, we may not be able to find a particular report.
10. When we add sending to the internet
Before we add a function that sends anything other than what is described in sections 3 to 5, we will update this page first. It will be off by default and will send only when you choose it yourself. The contents of your disc will not be sent.
11. Children's information
We do not specifically collect children's information. We do not collect the contents of your disc.
12. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we will announce it on this page first. The date of the change will be written at the top of the page.
Language of the app: the screens of Disc Rescue are available in Japanese and English only. Pages of this site that are not translated yet are in Japanese.
