Terms of Use

These terms set out the conditions for using the Windows software "Disc Rescue" (the free version, "Disc Rescue Lite", and the paid one-time-purchase version, "Disc Rescue"). Your right to use the version you bought has no time limit. Updates and replies to inquiries are provided for a set period. Microsoft Store terms also apply to purchasing, payment, refund requests and the management of whether you have bought the software.

Seller: trade name ODYU WORKS. The contact is the e-mail address written in the Legal notice under the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions.

1. How long you can use the version you bought

Your right to use the version you bought has no time limit. We will not stop the version you bought from checking discs, taking out video or saving because updates and replies to inquiries have ended.

However, having no time limit is not a promise that it will keep working forever. It may stop working, or become impossible to reinstall, because of future changes to Windows, a failure of your PC or drive, a change in how the Microsoft Store works, and the like.

2. Period of updates and replies to inquiries

We do the following while the software is on sale, and for 6 months after sales end.

Date sales end
to be decided
Last day of updates and replies to inquiries
to be decided (the same day, 6 months after the day sales end; if that month has no such day, the last day of that month)

When the date sales end is decided, we will announce it on this page, on the Microsoft Store page and in the app. When we end the software, we will decide the final version and announce it in the same places.

Refunds follow the Microsoft Store procedure and the rights the law gives you. Details are in the Legal notice under the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions.

3. About new versions to come

The purchase price does not include any separately sold major version that may be released in the future. Whether we release a new major version, its price, and the conditions for providing it to people who have already bought, will be announced again at that time.

4. Encrypted discs

For discs protected by encryption or copy protection such as AACS, there is no function that removes the encryption to take out the video. Video from commercial discs, discs on which TV programs were recorded, and the like may not be taken out.

Whether a disc is encrypted is judged from the encryption marks left in the contents of the disc. When we find an encryption mark, we tell you so and do not start taking data out. This is the same on a PC where another program has already removed the encryption, if the disc contents carry an encryption mark. When the free diagnosis version reaches this judgment, we do not recommend buying the software to take data out of that disc.

In some cases, such as when the encryption marks are hidden, the encryption cannot be recognized. Even when it is not recognized, this does not make the software a means of removing encryption.

The same applies to copy-controlled CDs (CCCD). When we find one, we tell you so and stop taking data out. There is no function that removes or avoids a copy-protection mechanism.

5. Read results and safety notes

  1. This software tries to take data out of the readable parts of CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs. We cannot promise that all the data can be taken out, that the video or sound taken out is the same as the original, or that it will play correctly. Even when the result for a music CD matches the online record, we cannot say it is the same as the original sound.
  2. When the paid version repairs the unreadable places of a music CD from the record, those parts were not read from the disc but rebuilt from the online record. The repaired places are shown so that you can tell. Some places cannot be repaired.
  3. Reading a disc that is scratched, deteriorated or deformed may make the disc worse, and may cause trouble or damage in the drive. Continuing to read may also lower the chance of taking data out later.
  4. Do not use a disc with a clear defect such as a crack or deformation. If you hear an unusual noise, feel strong vibration, or notice a smell or unusual heat, stop reading. For an important disc that has no other copy, please consider asking a professional recovery service before you start.
  5. The amount of data that could be read and whether the video plays correctly are separate matters. The amount read and the save result shown by this software do not promise that the whole video is complete.
  6. "Report a problem" in the app is available in both the free and the paid version. You decide whether to send; the contents shown on the screen are sent once, only when you press "Send". Handling follows the Privacy Policy.
  7. This section explains the results of reading and the risks that come with the work. It does not release us from legal liability for damage caused by our intent or negligence. The rights the law gives you are not limited by these terms.

6. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms in accordance with the law when the change suits the general interest of users, or when it is reasonable in light of the need for the change, the appropriateness of the changed contents and other circumstances.

When we change them, we will decide what changes, why, and the date the changed terms take effect, and announce this on this page or by another appropriate method. Changes that greatly affect users' rights will be announced in advance, according to their contents. Where the law requires the user's consent to a change, we will obtain it by an appropriate method.

7. Other provisions
